Holistic Acupuncture Benefits to Health and Wellbeing

The traditional Chinese medicine practice originating from eastern china over 2500 years ago, stimulates specific points to clear energy blockages and regulate the usual flow of energy in the body, known as qi. By penetrating areas on the skin with a needle as fine as a strand of hair, the acupuncture benefits can provide comfort for those suffering from disease and illness, and those needing a relief from pain.

Acupuncture benefits are proven to relieve symptoms of back pain, pregnancy and irregular mood.

Back Pain

The biggest reason individuals commence acupuncture therapy is to treat back pain. This comes as no surprise, considering a staggering 80% of the population will experience some type of chronic back pain in their lifetime, as stated by the ‘Medical Journal of Australia.

Acupuncture benefits in back pain works in two ways; first, as relief from the pain itself, and second, as stress relief. Stress is a major cause of back pain (as well as a multitude of other conditions), and acupuncture therapy can relieve both emotional and biomechanical strain.

The many positive effects of the treatment can be attributed to the release of various chemicals in the brain, spinal cord and back muscles that improve overall well-being. This is the result of careful placement of the hair-thin needles by the acupuncturist, which work to stimulate various parts of the central nervous system, boosting the release of endorphins.

Acupuncture, used with other traditional Chinese treatments trigger the release of natural opioids: feel-good chemicals in the brain that promote sleep and significantly reduce pain. Acupuncture is an effective and painless alternative therapy that can alleviate back pain in a safe and calming technique.

Pregnancy

Most pregnant women and mothers agree: natural is best.

There are plenty of acupuncture benefits for expectant mothers. A collection of physical and psychological pregnancy discomforts – morning sickness, fatigue, anxiety, pelvic pain and breast tenderness – have been proven to be naturally eased via this non-invasive therapy.

Even post-birth, the acupuncture benefits continue. Many new mothers turn to acupuncture to enhance energy levels, and combat postpartum depression, stress and sleeping distress.

Acupuncture is also known for promoting fertility and increasing the chance of pregnancy. The treatment stimulates blood flow to the ovaries and uterus to encourage pregnancy naturally and through IVF, by promoting ovulation, alleviating stress on the central nervous system and regulating hormones in the body.

Mood

The healing powers of acupuncture extend to benefiting psychological ailments, too. Estimates say roughly one in five people will experience clinical depression at least once within their lifetime.

Traditional Eastern medicine takes a holistic approach on the body, extending beyond physical alignments. Psychological health goes hand in hand with physical health, so it is crucial that the mind and energy of the body are looked after in conjunction with physical problems. Acupuncture is an effective solution to treat irregular mood and depression in partnership with prescribed medications if necessary.
